Automox Tray and End-User Notifications FAQ
These are common questions may ask, which administrators should be prepared to answer.
The is required to manage software updates and restart requirements. It is part of your 's for keeping systems secure and up to date.
No. Notifications are scheduled based on policy, and cannot be snoozed or turned off. The restart happens automatically if not completed before the deadline.
The restart notification in the Automox Tray is only cleared after a device restart if the software in question was actually updated.
For 3rd party starting with agent version 2.3.34, you can restart your device using either the Restart Now button in the Automox tray or the standard restart option in your operating system (such as the Start menu in Windows or the Apple menu in macOS). In most cases, the restart notification will be cleared from the Tray.
For 1st party updates it is recommended that you restart your device through the Restart Now button in the Automox Tray or the native update and restart options in the Windows Power Menu or macOS System Settings page.
Beginning with agent version 2.4, the same behavior applies to worklets that require a restart. Restarts are recognized whether you use the Automox tray or your operating system’s restart option.
If the tray still shows that a restart is required after you have restarted and confirmed that packages have updated, contact your IT administrator or Automox Support for assistance.
This can happen if the device was offline during the scheduled update. A restart from the tray should resolve the status. If it does not, users should contact IT support.
Starting with Agent 2.3.34, a worklet is available to disable the Automox Tray on Windows devices. This gives flexibility in environments where the tray is not required or should be temporarily suppressed.
Outside of this worklet, the tray remains a required component to support deadline-based notifications and ensure users comply with update and restart policies.
You cannot currently suppress pop-up reminders. A few options can help you avoid it.
- You can disable update and restart notifications in the policy configuration.
- For Windows systems, you can disable the tray through a worklet.
- The Automox tray supports custom notification text from IT admins. Any custom messaging configured in existing policies appear in the tray.
- Starting with 2.3.34, you can replace the text "Managed by your IT Administrator" with your own custom text. See Tray Customization Worklets for more information about customizing the Automox tray.
On macOS, changes to Do Not Disturb (enabling or disabling) take about 30 seconds before the Automox tray reflects the new state. This delay does not occur on Windows.
See also: End-User Notifications for details about configuring Do Not Disturb (DND) in policies.
When multiple policies are scheduled on a device, the Automox tray displays notifications tied to the deadline of the first policy that will run.
